Cheryl L. Cook: National Staffing Employee of the Year

Editor's note: The following is an excerpt from a news release that was sent today to more than 1,200 business and labor reporters across the nation.

Cheryl L. Cook of Washington, DC, is the 2006 National Staffing Employee of the Year.

An employee of ABBTECH Staffing Services Inc., Cheryl is on assignment at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. She is the director of E-GOALS, the bureau's online survey and performance measurement system.

Cheryl's expertise in public administration, project management, and information technology, along with her demonstrated leadership skills, made her the perfect fit for the staffing firm's position, says Janet Yost of ABBTECH.

Cheryl's success exemplifies why millions of people choose to work as temporary and contract employees for U.S. staffing firms: choice of assignments, valuable training, and scheduling flexibility. "The flexibility of my position allows me to participate in those activities that are my life's passion. The people I've met through staffing want a fuller life. They want to work in professionally challenging environments, but they also want to do other thing (like parenting, community service, and schooling) that feed back into their careers and enrich their lives," says Cheryl.

The flexibility of her position gives Cheryl the time to do the work she is most inspired by, working in the community as a cultural competence trainer. She also has returned to school to pursue a master's degree and doctorate at Howard University.

"Not only does Cheryl Cook represent everything that a staffing firm would want in an employee, skilled, professional, and reliable but her commitment to her values, her courage and determination to reach her goals, and her strength to see them through are highly admirable," says Yost.

"We salute Cheryl and the nearly three million temporary and contract employees who are on assignments every day," says Richard Wahlquist, president and CEO of ASA. "From the assembly line to the executive suite, temporary and contract employees are a vital part of the U.S. work force."

Cheryl will be honored at a Nov. 9 luncheon during Staffing World 2006 in Las Vegas.

The 2006 National Staffing Employee of the Year is sponsored by Esprit Capital Advisors, providing merger and acquisition, restructuring, strategic planning, and corporate finance services.
